It's shocking that even a remote uninhabited island in the Pacific is covered in the waste of our modern society. Henderson Island is strew with waste from fishing boats as well as assorted other waste that has been brought there by currents from thousands of miles away. This will choke and poison all sorts of animals.
We have to face up to the fact that our wasteful culture has consequences. Billions of water bottles will be used once and then thrown away. A lot of that will end up in landfill and some will get into the oceans. Many countries have recycling schemes that can deal with most of this, but people don't always use those as it's "not convenient", or they "can't be bothered".
We really need to wake up to what we are doing.
