It would seem many of us that follow EOS were largely let down with the recent B1June announcement. Thinking back on it now it seems rather obvious why, we just simply expected too much from B1. And really why wouldn't we; they have created what many of us feel will be the first blockchain that actually has the capability to achieve mass adoption and managed to pocket $4B while doing so. Certainly with that kind of track record and that magnitude of funding B1 should be able to deliver the final knock out blow to not only mainstream social media, but also to the other competing blockchains as well.
Here's what we got wrong:
BlockOne isn't EOS, its just that simple. EOSio exists, yes because B1 built it, but now its alive, no longer under the wing of B1. As much as the Fudders would like to argue, EOSio is decentralized and changes to the underlying code cannot be implemented at will by B1.
So what are we missing, how do we realign our expectations with reality and move forward? First, what should we really expect from B1 in the first place?
If this is reasonable and thinking back to B1June, did they do this? I'd say without a question yes they did. They've invented their own Web-Assembly Virtual Machine that makes EOS even faster. Now I'm not hard-core coder or anything but from what I hear from those that are, this is a big deal (remember EOSio is already crazy fast). They partnered with Yubico to enable even greater EOSio/user security. And finally they partnered with Coinbase (and in doing so likely spending some of that $4B) to increase the education and adoption if EOSio.
These might not be overly sexy releases, but in the grand scheme of what is possible on EOSio, things just got better for users and developers. This means more of us on the platform, and even more tools and capabilities for future dApp developers to build with.
This is the other bit that I think people are missing. EOSio is a platform that any of us can build on. Why is it that we somehow expected B1 to be the ones who not only make EOSio better but are also to come up with the killer dApp? Sure they are going to do some big things, but do they need to do it all? This community is filled with incredibly talented people, who should be taking their unsatisfied expectations of B1June and redirecting those to doing something better.
If you don't like VOICE, then get off your ass and do something about it, make something better, join the conversation. That is what I just did...and I must say, it feels good to get this off my chest even if no one else cares.
Whether VOICE works and draws all sorts of people in or not shouldn't really matter...its just one dApp out of thousands that will eventually live on EOSio. Its also surely not going to be the last dApp that B1 builds directly or indirectly through their VC fund.
I think we all need to just take a step back, think of how far we've come in just a year, and think about all that is still entirely possible on EOS. All of those unfulfilled ideas and expectations still exist as potential realities, so don't complain, participate. Help to bring about voting on the blockchain, and running the second layer of BTC on EOSio and whatever else seemed possible just 5 days ago. Don't give up...the road to victory is long and full of shitty potholes, but we'll get there if we keep our eyes on the prize and expectations based in reality.
Go EOS!
