Equator monument is located on Road Khatulistiwa, Pontianak, West Kalimantan. Latitude zero degrees of earth, the right line divides the southern and northern parts of the earth. This is the original monument, smaller size, which is contained in the complex of large Equator Monument building.
There are only 12 countries in the world crossed by the equator. But there is only one city that exactly separates the northern and southern hemispheres, namely Pontianak. You are right at that point while visiting the Equator Monument.
Its history all began in 1928, when a group of international expeditions from the Netherlands arrived in Pontianak. Their goal is to establish an equatorial point in the city.
In the same year, the Equator Monument was built in the form of a milestone and an arrow on it. In 1930, the monument was perfected by the addition of a circle at the top of the monument. Eight years later, the monument was again refined by using wood belian (iron wood typical of West Kalimantan). Its height is 4.4 meters.
