The rice stalk borer enters the leaf sheath and proceeds to the growing point or stalk of the rice, thus damaging the plant. This pest is called sundep pest (dead heart effect = due to damage of the terrace).

If the rice has been attacked by stem borer then the rice stalk will look dull white and the seed will not appear entirely.
before the stem borer continues to grow then spraying is done by using pesticides to eradicate the stem borer so it will not continue to multiply.
