Another loss in a row for Liverpool FC, and this time they are being knocked out of the FA Cup competition in the 3rd round by Wolverhampton Wanderers. At fulltime the score was 2 - 1 after Ruben Neves strike the winning goal during the 2nd half of the match. Unlike the loss against Manchester City on Thursday last week, this time, I was not as deeply troubled by the result.
The result was as expected to my opinion, as Liverpool fielded a makeshift teams to rest the main players for the next trip to Brighton. This team consists of 4 players who have never even played a single game this season. 3 of them are teenagers, and one of them was only 16 years old. The makeshift defence line was also a concern, as the centerback (Fabinho) was actually a midfielder, who was flanked by inexperience and lack of confidence fullbacks, and the 16 year old paired with him in the middle.
The performance was even worse when the midfield didn't function as well as they should be, and the strikers were obsolete, barring Divock Origi who scored the solitary goal. Daniel Sturridge was a big let down, a player of his calibre should have performed even better than what he has shown during the match.
In my opinion, this current Liverpool team is quite thin in depth at the moment due to injuries to 3 of its major squad players. I think, Klopp has no other choice but to rest his big guns and drafted in the academy youngsters. He have faith in these youngsters and they did perform well doing the match. Ji Kana Hoever, the 16 year old centerback impresses me a lot. This kid has a huge potential and a bright future ahead of him.
Anyway, it is a good experience and a good run out for the kids and the fringe players. I just hope that this match will improve their match fitness and at the same time doesn't effect their confidence that much. They are a bunch of good players, but Wolverhampton took their chances really well when Liverpool players made mistakes.
There is nothing more to look forward to in the English Domestic Cup this season, since Liverpool also crashed out of the League Cup. The good thing about missing out in these cup competition is that they can now focus solely to win the Champions League and the Premier League. How I wish they could win at least one of these title. Especially the league title.
