Happy National Dog Day!
Always celebrated each August 26th, National Dog Day has two goals. The first is to honor dogs in general for all they do. The second is to rescue dogs from homelessness and abuse. This day is an opportunity for us to recognize and appreciate the value and importance of dogs in our lives.
Dogs help us in many ways. They are watchdogs for our safety. They lead the blind and help the disabled. Dogs aid in search and rescue, and they seek out bombs and drugs.
National Dog Day was created by the National Dog Day Foundation. Sometimes dogs need us to save them from homelessness or abuse. The goal of the National Dog Day foundation is to rescue 10,000 dogs a year.
Dogs are natural mood elevators and they reduce our stress levels. No matter what, your dogs will always greet you with joy when you get home.
Dogs teach us and remind us of life lessons such as:
- Don’t take life too seriously.
- Don't jump into any commitments without first sniffing out the situation
- When you are in, you are all in!
They keep us socially connected since people will talk to you if you have a dog.
Here are some ways you can celebrate today:
- Use #NationalDogDay to post photos of your dog on social media.
- Take your dog for a walk.
- If you do not have a dog, ask to take your neighbor’s dog for a stroll.
- Volunteer at a shelter.
