Hellow Steemit Fellows🙆
I forgot which side of Prambanan Temple Compound is this
Nope.. I am not Geologist not even Archaelogist😊 aahh I missed , someone who shared about Aceh Historical sites, and I think that he inspired me to enjoy the ancient architectural place like Prambanan Temple when I was in Yogyakarta. When other people busy to take self photos, My Hubby couldn't stopped me from busy talking to the stones😂.
these stones belongs to hundreds of ruining temple
Some big earthquakes that had happened since 9th century after The Prambanan Temple established has a big impact for those stones piles. I wonder how people crafted the relief on the Andesite stone beautifully. You know.. there's no evindence found around the place about a stone printed machine😅
you can find the similar relief at every temples at the compound, pricesly similar, this is the Sacred Life Tree, Kalpataru
According to All about Prambanan, it supposed to be 240 temples but only 18 left and that's reconstructed since 1918-1953, especially the biggest one or Shiva Temple. 47 meters height and 34 meters wide. This is a biggest and Beautiful Hindu Temple in South East Asia after Angkor Watt in Cambodia.
These temple has 4 gates, but only the South Gate still exists. The temple face to the east, even though this temple was built to worship 3 gods in Hindu, Brahma the Creator, Wishnu/Vishnu the Care Taker/Protector and Syiwa/Shiva the Destroyer, in this compound, Shiva is the most honoured.
Well.. I don't have quite good pictures to show you the different between all the temples, beside you can find it anywhere in other site too. 😂😂😂 this is called as justification😆, all right.. this post has been in the draft for 4 days, I need to post it soon.
this is the signature relief of Prambanan or Syiwagrha, a lion
In 1733, CA Lons a VOC officer found the ruins, in 1885, IJ Zerman started to clean the bushes and in 1902 Van Erp continued to discover the compound. Then in 1918, the ancient department started to re-established the ruins. They dig and collected piece by piece 70-80kg andesite and tuffs rock to rebuilt it based on the information they found from an old decree called syiwagrha which mentioned about that the temples were ready in 856 M.
animals relief, look at the birds on Kalpataru trees
Prambanan Temple Compound devided into 3 zones, sacred zone where the 8 main temples are, middle zones where hundreds of temples are, but only few has been rebuilt and outer zone. Each zones is surrounded by andesite's wall.
at the left side of the wall is the sacred zone, these temples called Perwara Temples or Candi Apit
The temple above is 14 meters in height and the foundation is 6x6 meters, couldn't get closer to take picture of the relief because my partner was asking to leave the compound ASAP. That's why I missed the reliefs story of Ramayana on the Shiva Temple, failed to recognise the 3 big "Wahana" or Vehicle Temples. Wahana Temples belong to 3 gods, nandi or cow is Shiva's vehicle, swan is Brahma's Vehicle and Garuda which become Indonesia Nation Symbol is Vishnu's Vehicle.
I think this is belongs to Vishnu Temple😅 but not really sure though I read about how to differs the temples despite of its measure
Well.. not all the stones used in this temples reconstruction are ancient rock or andesites😢 tons of the rocks had taken by the villagers or other people to use as their house building fondation and some other buildings, before the government issued the site is protected under the law and become one of Unesco World Heritage😔
in one of these temples, the researchers found 10 stone boxes contained of gold coins, silvers, seeds and gems in 2016
This is the proof of how great is our Ancient especially in architecture and construction, it was built in 820-856 M during the Mataram Kingdom of the Old Java dynasty. You can read more about it from "History of Java" by TR. Raffles. I wish I could come back and learning more about the temples some other times.
