History was made on Sunday as Pep Guardiola became the first Premier League coach to be shown a yellow card in the course of a match.
The event of his yellow card happened at exactly 41 minutes during the community shield encounter with Liverpool at Wembley.
The event was triggered after a furious protest by Guardiola when a high tackle from Joe Gomez left David Silva in a crumpled heap.
The Liverpool and England defender won a bouncing ball ahead of the Spaniard, but Guardiola was unhappy with the manner of the challenge, venting at fourth official Stuart Atwell.
As Silva received treatment on the field, referee Atkinson approached the technical area and proceeded to show the yellow card.
Rules to show managers yellow cards were brought in by the FA in 2018 to clean up touchline behaviour.
