Totem is a natural object, animal or insect that has a special meaning for the person. The Chinese zodiac, for example, is based on animal signs. Around the world there must be butterflies there are more than 28,000 species of butterflies. 80 percent are in the tropics. Although they represent different things in different cultures, universal butterflies represent change and transformation. Why? Because the butterfly is an insect that begins its life in one form and ends it in another. A butterfly begins as a crawling creature, then hibernates in a cocoon, only to rejoin the world as a visible flying insect.
