BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has appealed to the High Court against the verdict of the judicial court in the Zia Orphanage Trust case.
Advocate Abdur Rezak Khan filed an appeal in the relevant branch of the Supreme Court at around 3pm on Tuesday, February 20.
The lawyer panel member AKM Ehsanur Rahman told the court about the appeal. He said, 'Appeals will be more than 123 pages.'
Earlier, getting the certified copies of the verdict on Monday, from 7pm to 4pm, lawyers drafted the appeal. Supreme Court Bar President Advocate Zainul Abedin, Former President AJ Mohammad Ali, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokan, Sanaullah Mia, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukdar did the draft of the appeal. Drafting work has been done in Dhanmondi chamber of AJ Mohammad Ali.
The court gave Khaleda Zia five years imprisonment on February 8 in the Zia Orphanage Trust case. Apart from BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, the remaining five accused were fined for 10 years and fined Tk 20.17 million. Khaleda Zia has been imprisoned since that day.
