As you may know, there was an attack of The DAO and there is uncertain regarding the destiny of the funds. It is important to mention an economic concept which is so called moral hazard.
In economics, moral hazard occurs when one person takes more risks because someone else bears the cost of those risks. A moral hazard may occur where the actions of one party may change to the detriment of another after a financial transaction has taken place.
What does it means regarding The DAO attack? It means that the investors of the DAO knew the risk of their investment and that the code was not perfect (several bugs were known). Despite of the risks, they decided to invest in the DAO.
If we continue with the hard fork, those people would have taken a decission whose risks would be assumed by third parties (in this case could be the Ether holders, or people working with Ethereum technology, given that the trust in the technology has been damaged because of the amount of the founds stolen).
If we continue with the hard fork, I have not desintentive to invest in a new DAO with a lack of security and bugs in the future, given that I know that the risks of my decission will be assumed by the rest of the Ethereum enviroment and not by me.
And those are my thoughts....
