Well in part is the fault of the user of that plataform, it wasn't on the ethereum wallet but on a third party one which is more user friendly but didn't gives tou control of your private keys

if you don't own the private keys you don't own the tokens

Here in steemit the private key is the one you use to login, what you do is sing that you actually are the owner of the account
