You've heard a lot about bitcoin theft, but the target this time was one of its main competitors, ethereum, which went from $ 10 to almost $ 400 in a few months. It already represents 25% of the total market capitalization.
Interest in ethereum has been increasing, including by the Hackers: there have been three major "robberies" of the cryptomania in less than a month, totaling about $ 40 million.
The most recent theft involved a security breach in Parity's ethereum portfolio software. Hackers took advantage of the vulnerability to trespass three accounts and deflect 153,000 coins, equivalent to $ 32 million.
The problem lay in a feature that should make ethereum portfolios safer. For a transfer to be released, it needs to be authorized by several people who hold private cryptographic keys. Hackers have been able to use this to steal millions of dollars.
The damage was only greater because Parity researchers "stole" all vulnerable portfolios they could find on their systems, storing 377,000 coins in a safe place - a total of $ 77 million. They will be returned to their respective owners.
