See below; plus: - not doing a hardfork would help a criminal who saw a possibility to take advantage of a lot of people. - a lot of btc core were against it because it would set a precedent while they should be implementing a hard fork asap and they are talking about a completely different project; eth is supposed to be used as "fuel" for the platform and not necessarily as something to hold value (eg 2% inflation in the end) - ethereum is in beta and problems which occur at that stage should be fixed not causing a project to turn to dust.
