Capital of Queen of Sheba
The African nation's historic route begins in the ancient city of Axum, Ethiopia, which dates to about 100 B.C. The Queen of Sheba made it her capital 1000 years before Christ.

House of Original Arc of the Covenant
The first emperor of Ethiopia named Menilik who is son of Queen of Sheba and King Solomon brought the original Arc of the Covenant from Israel to Ethiopia. This Arc, which once housed the Ten Commandments, remains well hidden now in Axum.

Centre of largest monolith in the world
Axum is also known for its huge, towering sculptures that are more than two thousand years ago. These towering sculptures were made out of single blocks of granite. The tallest stood over 33 metres high is the largest monolith in the world. The biggest now standing is 23 metres high.
