Hello there Steemians!
This time around I am opening up a discussion. The matter of mining software!
What software do you use? Are you a Linux enthusiast or Windows fan?
We at PlainBroadcast are planning to use ethOS, which is a 64-bit Linux distribution that mines Ethereum in a “plug and play” way, allowing you to control all your rigs from a single location, and drill down to specific GPUs where necessary. (more info here: https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/guides/how-to-use-ethos-to-manage-your-ether-mining/
This mining software is sold on gpushack.com for around 39~49 USD each and can control up to 9 GPUs per rig.
And, as you can gather from multiple websites, ethOS has lots of advantages!
Pros of ethOS:
Remote configuration: instruct rig to remote reboot, set core clocks, memory clocks, fan control, pool info, and other settings remotely. (HUGE PLUS!)
Extremely lightweight: Works with weakest possible CPU made in the last 5 generations on only 1 GB of ram.
Automatic GPU overheat protection: GPUs will automatically turn off if they reach a temperature threshold.
Stratum Proxy: Automatically configured for local stratum proxy, stratum pools can be changed in config
Automatic reporting: Web panel with detailed rig statistics and event reports (example).
Boots and Mines: IP assignment via DHCP, hostname defined by mac address.
Easy KVM: A terminal window opens with focus on boot, no mouse required.
Easy Update: Update to the latest ethOS version with a single command.
DAG file management: SSD won't run out of space.
Supports AMD GPUs: Any 2GB+ HD 7000 series, any R9 200/300 series, including R9 390/390X/Fury/Nano and the RX models.
Some of the cons I’m aware of:
Requires 1 software per mining rig – which translates to 39 to 49 USD per 9 GPUS mining
Has seen complaints about reduction of MH/S from some users – using RX 570 or RX 580
Hard to completely master – or so I gather.
This is all that I understand about this software, luckily there is two of us and a huge whole community to help!
Soon enough we'll try to get more stuff on Nicehash and Claymore in a later post.
So, should we go with Nicehash, Claymore or ethOS?
If you guys liked the post and want to boost us, you know the drill :
