At the risk of being labelled a heretic and apostate by die - hard religious people who refused to believe that human beings are fallible regardless of their spiritual stature, I have decided to give opinion on this burning issue.
You see, like many issues that we have in Nigeria, the issue of religion has perhaps shown over time that we are still immature when it comes to handling religious issues. Yesterday, I was in a vehicle on a short distance trip and a man, called the attention of other passengers to prayer. After praying, he started preaching and at a point, his preaching became loud and aggressive. A man, sitting in front, not comfortable anymore cautioned the man. And the next thing the preacher man would say is, "oga are u allergic to the word of God?
The man, who coincidentally was a Muslim by appearance, got provoked and started chanting Arabic words. It became heated and the driver had to halt the vehicle. For good 30minutes off the vehicle, there were accusations ,counter accusations, insults, assaults, harassment and embarrassment. The passengers, including passerby and passengers of other vehicles were polarized into supporters group, opposers group and the observers group(Of course, that's where i belong, so don't ask me).
To me, religion is one's personal relationship with God and the issue of evangelization or preaching should be done in a way that will not infringe on the rights and comforts of our neighbour. Yes, we all know that Jesus is coming soon, it is written every where and we know it because we are prepared for His coming. Yet is it right to come to my window every morning with a megaphone announcing the coming of Christ? as if am the chairman of sinners on earth. I used to think that the best way we can preach is to walk our talk, by our attitudes, by our way of life not by the noise we make and inconvenient our neighbours.
What's your take on this issue?
