It's my sons Brahmopadesham on May 2nd and I am busy preparing for the occasion. It is an important milestones for my son who would be taking up and practicing Brahmachariya ( celibacy) henceforth till he is ready for marriage.
This is going to be the second important samskara in hindu traditions after the garbha samskara. This would be the 2nd stage in his life. After the ceremony, he would be expected to be adult enough to do his daily chores on his own.
The upadesham (education) would be imparted to him by his father in the presence of relatives who will bless the child who is all set to walk on the path of knowledge. The ceremony would begin by him letting go his hair by shaving off his entire hair. After the ceremony my son would be wearing a sacred thread always. He should also perform the sandhyavandanam at least 2 times a day.
I am excited as it is going to be an important part of my son's life and it is also the first ceremony that would be hosted by me and my husband, and at the same time nervous too wondering if my son is old enough to take up the conditions that comes with the ritual.
I have babied my son for 10 years and he cannot eat his food until I feed him. That has to stop after this ceremony.
Today we had a small pre ceremony at home wherein we prayed for the blessings of our relatives who are no longer with us.
