I have good news and more good news.
First, the good news.
MOTHER AND DAUGHTER WERE REUNITED
That’s right, the mother of the child that my wife and I were watching was released from the hospital a couple of days ago. If you don't know what I am talking about, but want to know, check out this post from last week.
It was late at night when she was released, so she asked if her daughter could stay that night again at our house and the two were reunited in the morning. I wanted to post the update right when it happened, but I knew I wanted to do this post calculating my post payout from the last post and I didn’t want to flood the #familyprotection tag, so I figured I’d wait.
Did anybody track that ridiculous run-on?
We had one initial call from CPS and then one right after the mother was released to confirm the girl's whereabouts and care. The mom has communicated to us that she had one additional call with the caseworker and that everything went really smoothly.
Hurray.
The other good news is that I got a lot of support from you all on my initial video asking for advice. As I mentioned in that video, the pay-out from the post will be donated to the family. That post just paid out today. So here is my quick maths.
Post payout:
After subtracting the 3.145 SBD I spent to promote the post with voting bots, you get 13.485 SBD. Subtract 25% of that amount, which is being donated to
At the time of writing, SBD and Steem are both trading at around $2.50.
My handy-dandy calculator tells me that is equal to: to $25.20 and $13.10 = $38.30.
Now, because this woman is not on Steemit (working on it, trust me!), and the hassle of converting crypto to USD involves some fees (not to mention the process of powering down SP), coupled with the fact that Steem is trading pretty low right now, I thought it would be best to just pay for the donation in the USD that I already have and keep the Steem where it belongs.
Also, because SBD is trading much lower right now than it was a few days ago, I thought I’d give this gift a little boost and round up to an even $50. I’m confident (or at least hopeful) that the Steem/SBD price will recover some of the loss from this week.
Now is the question of how to give this gift.
This woman has not asked for this and is the kind of person who very much does not want to feel beholden to others. The easiest thing to do is to hand her cash, but I do not want this to feel like pity. I may be overthinking this, but if you have ever received un-solicited help that made you feel inadequate or looked down upon, then you’ll understand where I am coming from. I’m not sure why, but there is something about just handing someone $50 that feels flippant.
So here is what I’ve decided:
A $50 gas card. Everybody uses gas. There is a Mobil right by her house. And there is something about it that doesn’t feel like searching for loose change to give somebody at the corner. I want this to be empowering and helpful. Not demeaning or embarrassing in any way.
Thank you everyone for your support and advice. A special shout out to ,

Until next time, be blessed.
