So Discord Media, Which is an amazing independent organization of journalists, went through stacks of audited documents concerning the family services programs in British Columbia.
The way the audit works is the government audits itself to see how it’s doing and then quietly just sort of puts it aside hoping people don’t ask for it.
What the documents found is Kids aren’t being properly accessed when there’s complaints of danger to the kids.
The way it’s supposed to work is if a child or witness phoned them and says there’s a chance of harm to the kid... they go and investigate near the time it happened.
What’s happening is months go past or the organization just doesn’t get to it.
Okanagan... that number is sooo low.
It’s also a place know for kids in social services ending up in the hospital.
No word from the government yet on its plan to fix the system.
The Child Services keeps saying more work needs to be done and their goal is to be 100%
Which is easy to say but since the numbers haven’t moved in a decade... are they really trying?
