Update on Initiative in Cowichan Valley (Vancouver Island BC Canada) -
I reported last week an emergency call to action by my friend Patrician Dawn trying to help a mother keep her newborn infant from being removed from her care -- demanding that the Ministry inform the mother and extended family what they needed to do in order to keep her baby in her own home. Here is an update on the progress being made in our community...
She reported in on facebook:
""If we're going to do anything about it we better damn well start finding the solutions today. We're one of the richest countries in the world and yet here we are still trying to figure out, 'How do we find prevention money.?' We need to start working with these families because their children should never be taken," he said.

WE STARTED!!!! ITS CALLED : The Butterfly Plan
Please help- Caring Cowichan Citizens.
EARLY INTERVENTION/PREVENTION : "30-60 day Transition Plan" or as we have named it- THE BUTTERFLY PLAN.
In co creating an alternative initiative here in the Cowichan Territory ,having been inspired by local community agencies, Settler Allies, Front line workers and Advocates. We met with our local MCFD office to engage in a conversation of a 30-60 day transition plan: Honoring The Sacred Life Giver by keeping Mother and Child together. Through wrap around companion care and advocacy service allowing for the foundation of stability and the family to settle on a continual path to reunification.
This has begun...the unfolding of the unknown is in the larva stage.
So here I return to YOU our community. In the process of birthing this initiative we need your Voice to join ours in calling the Minister and local MCFD management to ask that the "30-60 Transition plan initiative or The Butterfly Plan, being developed in the Cowichan Territory be implemented within the next 14 days. We have support team people in place willing to give their time. There are resources already established within the services currently provided and can support Mothers and their babies to remain together.
Please help- Caring Cowichan Citizens. You ask me often
“ What can I do?”
THE CALL TO ACTION: ASK for the Butterfly Plan to be implemented now in Cowichan Territory.
