I am a worldbuilder; a universe of magic and dragons is my domain. I have recently begun applying myself to learning the discipline of writing down my adventures. It is not as hard as I thought, and a whole lot more fun. Sharing my world with others is a joy I have denied myself and yourself for too long, thinking that yourself would take issue with my word choices, lack of descriptive paragraphs, or mountain of dialogue.
But I am learning slowly that the only rule with any creative effort is to be myself. If yourself doesn't like myself, then maybe themselves would suit you better. In an effort to commit myself only to this single rule, I am going to post on this blog my raw drafts. No fancy editing. Just myself on the screen, in my raw state.
So if you read a few of my stories and think the chronology is confusing, are not sure where the characters are going, or even where the characters are, you're in good company. So is myself. I take heart in that myself won't stay here, and if yourself likes myself, I'd love to have you along for the journey.
Every journey starts with an introduction, so I'll introduce you to my playmates.
Welcome to the Three Worlds. Here, magic is an extension of your will, but few discover their full potential. I'd like to say that if you can imagine it, you can do it, but a lot of practice, determination, and some dangerous exercises go between those two points. If you're lucky, you can receive advice from one of the magical creatures, like a gryphn or a water fox. Just be careful if you approach a great serpent. Or a dragon. Take extra caution if you're travelling on the oceans as well.
Meet Djarai Kifaris. That's "dj" as in "fudge" and "a" as in "start". Her name means "victorious". She has some nicknames too, but you'll have to discover those for yourself, like I did. She comes from a people whose lifespans reach a thousand years, so she's probably much older than her youthful looks. Djarai is very dangerous when angered, but is also very hard to get angry. She is a master craftsman of metal and stone. Her favorite pastime is sleeping while everyone around her is going crazy.
Meet Tereizu. Pronounced "Te rei zu" with "e" as in "net". His name means "child of triumph". His father is a well-known healer who runs a hospital in a very dangerous town. Teriezu was taught everything his father knows from a very young age. He is quite willing to use his talents to either save or kill, as the situation demands. Opinions of his bedside manner are very mixed.
There is a lot more to discover, but I think this will get ourselves started. May our paths meet again another day.
