I’ve always been a jeans and a t-shirt kind of girl, and forever searching the next pair of perfect jeans for me. When I was young, I never had properly fitting jeans because I was tiny, poor and lived far away from proper clothing stores. I think I must have been closer to 18-years-old when I finally started to find some jeans that fit me tighter.
I was for a long time obsessed with super skinny, super low waist jeans, so low that if I had pubic hair, it would show. Slowly my taste has matured and I started a search for jeans that are cotton, not a polyester blend, that was a bit higher waisted and not skin hugging. I didn’t actually think a skinny jean in 100% cotton even excisted, but then I stumbled upon the updated version of the classic Levi’s 501, the skinny version, early this year, and holy shit, they are the perfect jeans.
Skinny leg, but with a little bit of room, thick 100% cotton, button fly, normal waist, bum lifting, thigh hugging. Just perfect. I got mine in the colour called Can’t Touch This, it’s a light blue pair with a few rips. Heavenly jeans! They mould perfectly to my body, just like a good leather jacket.
I was going to get them in different colours too, but either my size (w23l30) was sold out, or the other colours had elastane in it. I decided to enjoy my perfect jeans and check back later to see if my size was back in stock in a few other colours. I kept checking back a few time over the months but my size was always sold out. Then last week, I couldn’t find the 501 skinny from anywhere in the Levi’s site.
Here comes really bad news: Levi doesn’t make the 501 skinny at all anymore.
I seriously got a knot in my stomach when I found out. That is how obsessed I am with the jeans.
I immediately emailed Levi’s customer service to ask about the jeans and they said they are not currently making them but I could check their other models blablabla. I don’t want any other, I’ve tried them all and most are a blend or otherwise very ill fitting! I even send them emails from different addresses to let them know that we (read:I) want the jeans back!
I have the hardest bodytype to shop, and highest standards, for jeans, and I will no longer settle for anything less than the Levi’s 501 skinnys.
I began a frantic search for the jeans because I wanted another pair in the same colour as a backup, and then in a couple other colours. I’m compeltely and utterly obsessed with these jeans and I NEED more of them, not WANT, NEED! I started searching from any and every retailer that stocks Levi’s, to try and find a pair. Of course I could only find some leftover fat sizes but otherwise the jeans are basically not in stock anywhere anymore.
After hours and hours of searching the web, I finally stumbled on one pair in a similar colour, but with more rips and a size bigger than the original pair I have. I might boil these jeans and tumble dry in high heat to try and shrink them to fit me tighter. It’s not perfect but I got them for everyday use, and the perfect jeans will be my Sunday Church pair.
I will keep bombarding Levi’s with my emails and if/when they finally decide to do the right thing and bring back the perfect jeans, I’m buying ten pairs.
