The Met Gala event 2026 happened a few days ago. It is really pleasing to hear about the theme, which was Costume Art. The fashion they portrayed had to be all about art. Some of them did a fabulous job but some of them I just could not understand and digest what type of art it was. It looked like a disaster. I do not even know all the names of the artists who attended the event but there were some
I came across like Doechii, I am still not able to understand what type of art that is. One person wore pants with a print like he had peed in his pants....haha. And Madonna I expected better from her but she too came out as a disaster. Best was Heidi Klum look of a statue and Ananya Birla who really portrayed some art. Katy Perry and Rihanna were just ok. They were not bad but nothing fascinating also. Then there was this so-called Indian princess Isha Ambani, who I guess the only mission was to flaunt all the jewels from her mother's collection.
Looking at Met Gala fashion makes me wonder, how fashion has changed, and the kind of clothes these people wear, can never be worn on a normal day. Even for them it is a one-time wear, and these people cannot even repeat their dresses worn for such events, else they would be termed as poor, and standard dropped for repeating their dresses.
On one side there is so much poverty in the world and so many people deprived of basic needs and on the other side such extravagant shows where every costume goes in lakhs and millions. Can't even imagine how the world is divided with 2 distinctive sets of people and then in the middle there are these Upper and Lower Middle-class people like us, who cannot be tagged on either side. I believe these events can be scrapped off and the funds can be diverted for a better cause, but then who will ever take that initiative. These are events where these rich people can show off their money power. Fashion is good, but this is clearly not fashion; it's a show off of money and power. I really admire some of the millionaires and billionaires who do not participate in such events.
