On Thursday I visited a park in South San Jose for the first time in almost a year and did some birding. It is a great park that I need to visit more often! A lot of activity going on now as birds get ready to raise babies! Here are just a few of the birdies I had the pleasure of viewing:

a ruby-crowned kinglet (Regulus calendula) stayed still just long enough to get a photo
this California scrub jay (Aphelocoma californica) was better at staying still
The white-breasted nuthatches (Sitta carolinensis) were busy all over the park, and this one was carrying nesting material when I first came across him
and of course the acorn woodpeckers (Melanerpes formicivorous) were also making a racket all over the place, as the plant community is primarily oak woodland - their favorite
