It was New Year yesterday. No, not according to the Gregorian calendar, but according to the Hindu one that is celebrated on Chaitra which usually falls somewhere in March or April every year.
This new year is celebrated across India with different names. While in Karnataka it is Ugadi, In Maharashtra it is Gudi Padva. The celebrations are incomplete without new clothes, tasty food and of course a special dish that is basically a concoction of raw mangoes, jaggery and neem that symbolises that the new year may consist of sweet, tangy and bitter experiences, so one must be prepared for it.
Colorful rangolis and the main doors of houses decorated in flowers and mango leaves were a common sight today. So, for us it is a new beginning.
Happy New Year again guys!
