There’s actually no limit to what you can do when it comes to originality. Whether it’s awesome Halloween treats, carving sculptures with a chainsaw, or crazy balloon animals, there’s no end to the type of mediums you can work with, and no one understands this better than the pupils at Musashino Art University in Tokyo. Humongous sculptures are built by them out of straw. Yes, you read that right.
It’s called every year the pupils and the Straw Art Festival traveling to Kamizeki Lagoon Park in Niigata City, Japan, to participate in constructing impressive sculptures of straw.
Of course the festival features other things too. Based on Twistedsifter.com, the festival also has kite flying, a marketplace that sells food and agricultural products, and tons of family pleasure.
The holiday started eight years ago, based on ABC News, as a way to observe the ending of the rice crop season. The byproducts of the crop are turned into the wonderful sculptures. Pupils first construct a wooden framework which will be the support of the straw, and then layer the straw on top.
