Home Made Strawberry Cake for my son's birthday tomorrow! :-)
Since I had other stuff to do including making my famous mac-n-cheese, my mom agreed to bake the birthday cake for my son's birthday tomorrow. She would normally make this cake with the store bought cake mix but I really wanted it to be as all natural as possible so she improvised and used another family cake recipe for caramel cake that is all from sratch, but used strawberries instead of caramel.
It came out a little thinner than her normal strawberry cake so we improvised again and made it a 2 layer, she spread the home made strawberry icing, then decorated the outside with sliced strawberries.
I wanted to decorate the cake with his name, but again did not want to use any artificial flavors or colors, so since my son loves blueberries as much as strawberries, I used some small blueberries to spell out his name on the top layer, then used a cake topper sign that says happy birthday. Tomorrow we will put the number 2 candle above the birthday sign. :-)
P.S. -Here's a sneak peak of my mac-n-cheese:
