#17: Olivia: Watched from her balcony

Olivia stood on the balcony of their ‘loft’ apartment watching for her boyfriend to return. He’d gone to the corner market to buy some beer.

She idly surveyed the surrounding area while she waited. At times she couldn’t believe their luck. She might as well have won the lottery. In fact she had ‘invested’ in some crypto-coins a few years ago on a lark. She had then totally forgot about them. The coins sat on her hard drive for all that time...and increased in value ....exponentially.

She suddenly found that she was a crypto-coin millionaire.

She had been a nurse at the time of this happy discovery. She worked in the maternity ward. She liked what she did..but she was tired of being a bridesmaid and wanted to be a bride, as it were. She and her boyfriend had been holding off until the day arrived that they could afford a child.

That day had come.

She quit her job.

She and her boyfriend had selected a ‘loft condo’ near the river. It was an odd place. Many of the buildings nearby had been demolished. She had heard that the neighborhood had been ‘condemned ‘ (eminent domain) so that, of all things, an Ostrich Racetrack could be built.

That didn’t work out.

In frantic desperation, in order to maintain SOME sort of taxbase, the city had sold the property to a condominium developer...a rather strange one.

He boy friend was, of all things, a writer. He wrote books. He was inspired by the Clive Cussler character Dirk Pitt. It was therefore natural that when he saw a warehouse with a penthouse apartment on top he had to have it.

Thus...Olivia was standing on the balcony, on top of a ware house looking down the street expecting to see her boy friend walking back from the corner store.

She saw him...and watched him die.
