"I am sorry to bother you, but would you mind if I took a nap while you are here? You don't need to change what you are doing or anything. It is just to... loud... when I am by myself." -- SilverRey
Hejiq startled out of their work mentality to stare at the Ship's Human, Dem. They were wearing colourful insulation over their Ships' Skins known to Humans as a 'kigu', and this one was patterned to match the standard Skitty. Human Dem carried a pillow under one arm and a rolled-up mat under the other.
"There is something too noisy about your quarters?" enquired Hejiq. "We took care to insulate your residence from any invasive noises."
"Ironically? It's too quiet. My head gets loud when it's too quiet. Anxiety, ghost of flakk-ups past, things I should have said. Things I never should have said. I need some controlled white noise so I can fall asleep and the in-residence entertainment unit has an auto-shutoff feature I can't hack. Yet."
That 'yet' was ominous as hell, but a sleep-deprived Human was equally as dangerous as the word 'yet'. When faced with potentially equal threats, Hejiq chose an action that would benefit the Human whilst also allowing them time to alert the Captain and rest of the crew.
Any disaster averted before it could become one was a better outcome for all concerned. Hejiq said, "Make yourself as comfortable as you can out of the traffic paths, thankyou." And then immediately began drafting an urgent message to the Captain in regards to the potential for mayhem inherent in this situation.
Human Dem settled down out of foot-traffic range and in the footwell under an un-used work-station. The kigu apparently kept their slumbering body warm and the rest of the padding kept them comfortable. In a few minutes, her breathing evened and the small noises of Human slumber issued from the plush orange hood.
After another handful of minutes, Human Dem started gathering cats, clustering around her for comfort, company, and shared warmth.
All seemed quiet enough. So far.
Hejiq was greatly relieved to see a notice from the ships' maintenance crew declaring that the auto-shutoff feature for Human Dem's residence entertainment were adjusted to be customisable for Dem's needs.
A disaster averted, after all, was the best kind to encounter.
