Waking world you seem woven from the stuff of dreams, all shall fade away
Shifting seasons and elusive dreams, the ephemeral and fleeting, with thine companionship all are eternal. -- Anon Guest
Before anyone named him Kosh, he had never had a sound night's sleep. It had been a point of contention amongst his alleged caregivers as a child. Nobody wanted to believe that demon-kin like himself could have nightmares. Nobody could believe he would be disturbed by them so much that giving up on sleep in favour of meditation was a goal.
What kept surprising him was that sleep was so much easier now. Nightmares had been few and fleeting. Easily dismissed because of the company he kept. Because of his wife.
He still woke as dawn began to colour the sky. The world he saw couldn't decide between the greys of night and hues so dark they were nigh indistinguishable, but he could always see her. Cordelia. His destined bride. His true love.
It had been a long road to get here, through misunderstanding, misadventure, mistakes, and madness... but by the gods, he was glad she was here. He kept expecting to wake up and find it was all a dream. Nothing this good lasted this long. Not ever in his life.
Of course he held her close. It had taken months after his wedding to ease off clinging to her like a drowning man clung to any stray wood. Even now, this morning, he tightened his grip a little and inhaled her scent. Making certain she was real.
Cordelia rolled over in his arms and blessed his brow with a kiss. "Yes, it's all real, silly devil. It has been real for almost a year."
"Nothing this good has lasted in my entire life," he murmured into her neck. Laying little kisses there in appreciation of her presence. Cordelia Maripose Hearsalve Whitekeep nee Bellarin. Mine all mine...
Her eyes were bright to see him, and her smile wide and welcoming. "You're not getting rid of me, foolish man."
A fact that still amazed him. Just like the previously undiscovered fact that he could purr. Just as he was purring now. "It's going to be a beautiful day."
She peeked outside the window. "It's snowing and sleeting. It's horrible weather."
"It's a beautiful day to me. All days are beautiful when you're in them."
Cordelia made mock of punching him, laughing. "Much though I would love to stay in bed, your soon-to-be firstborn is pummeling my bladder. Let me up, you blue hugtopus."
"As you wish," he cooed, also rising to run himself through his morning exercises. Another fine morning with the love of his life, and another day of being welcomed as Kormwind Arachis Felbourne Whitekeep, the next Demon Lord of the realm.
Every day had the bloom of spring, so long as he could greet it with her.
