Some people should never be trusted with a Travel Multipass. Even if they did have the finances to get one. Dumei was one of them. Worse, they were one of those people who thought 'extra perks' meant the right to do whatever the hell they wanted and damn the consequences.
Case in point, the cause of the diverse alarms. A special array of gently-smouldering substances set up in pride of place in their "personal private" quarters aboard the cruiser.
Shipboard ERT's burst into those quarters. Full livesuits on, carrying extinguishers and emergency air. They identified the source of the smoke while Dumei was still screeching, "Ex-CUSE me!"
They fought off the ERT's efforts to give them clean air. All the time raging, "That was a sacred ritual in my culture! I need to clean my air of all the filthy alien miasmas! How dare you barge in like this! This is my space! I own it! I own everything in it! I know my rights! I'm going to sue!"
The ERTs shares a sub-telepathic look that said, Ah flakk, it's one of those. One of them subtly called for backup.
The spokesresponder said, "We have clean air laws in this vessel. Laws that all passengers must follow even inside their personal spaces."
"I was cleaning the air," said Dumei in the stereotypical I'm-speaking-to-morons voice. They bought out their personal copy of the laws and turned to a bookmarked page. "Shipboard passengers are allowed to ignite ritual fires or release ritual smokes as they so wish," they read. "It's right there. Black and white."
"The next part of that sentence says in the omnifaith chapel," said the spokesresponder.
"Well I can't clean the air there, it has a fume hood! All the healthy smells get vacuumed up into your stupid alien quote-unquote 'air cleansing system'. Can't you smell the miasma? This air is too unhealthy! I have a Multipass! I know my rights!"
"Great," said the spokesresponder. "Are you familiar at all with your responsibilities?"
