A human brings their two beloved pets, a pair of gentle capybaras, aboard station with them. And their antics are just too adorable! -- Anon Guest
[AN: I have only witnessed capybaras being chill and hanging out like they have no flakks to give]
They were on leashes, so they had to be pets. Everything else was a matter of debate, especially among the Designated Companions who were watching them board. There was Human Gene and the two... creatures placidly following in hir wake. As well as a large volume of accessories.
"They can't be cats. Humans don't make domestic cats that big," Companion Mar whispered. "Don't they?"
"I don't think they're dogs, either," murmured Companion Yigh. "They are the size and weight of many dogs, but... the configuration is off."
Human Gene noticed them and waved them over. "Come on and say hi! These are Terry and Phil, my Cappies."
This failed to answer any questions. Terran parlance had nicknames for anything and knowing them all could cause mental seizures in many. The word 'boot', for instance, could mean the storage space of a personal vehicle, footwear, the process of being dismissed from an occupation, or the human bottom. Given this, the word 'cappies' could mean anything or nothing. Usually at the same time.
They were dog-sized, but they weren't exactly dog-shaped[1]. They had large, dark eyes and small, rounded ears. One wore a red collar, and the other one had blue. Their square snouts sniffed at Mar and Yigh both.
Sensing the confusion, Human Gene said. "These are my pet capybaras. They're friend shaped."
They had a natural aura of relaxation surrounding them. One, having snuffled their fill of Yigh's pants, flopped on the ground and sighed. It was a sigh of immense and unfathomable satisfaction.
For a Deathworlder herbivore (scans confirmed it), these were the most relaxed animals in the known universe.
Tentatively at first, Mar scritched one between the ears. The reward was a low rumble of appreciation and the vague flailing of one hind limb.
The mystery of how the aptly-named Terra had created such relaxed creatures would wait for another day.
[1] Given the multitude of dog shapes, this means very little.
