I love my job, really I do. But these cats will not stop trying to nap on my workstation. I love them too, but I really need to get back to work. -- Anon Guest
"Aw come on, guys. Not again. Off! Off! Pssst!"
Companion Zan watched as her assigned human shooed a cluster of Skitties[1] off of their workstation console. The Skitties that didn't immediately scurry off to their corners were lifted gently off and placed on the floor. Which lead to a mobius exercise in which Human Utz placed one cat down whilst another hopped up to take their insolent ease.
Skitties tended to flock where warmth was. Which meant that Human Utz had a heat issue somewhere in the vicinity of their console. Zan placed an inspection order on Utz's behalf, citing the swarms of Skitties slowing them down. Then she went to help remove cats.
"You can throw them," reminded Zan. "They don't mind."
One of the Skitties leaped from her arms, cleaned itself, and then hopped back up to the console of contention.
"But I don't wanna be mean," complained Utz. "I like cats."
"Evidently too much," Zan started tossing felines towards the halls. "This is impeding your workflow and limiting your duties."
Console cleared of all but the most insistent Skitty, Utz settled into their work. Pausing now and then to scritch or pet the cat. "I do all my work just fine. It's starting that's the problem.
Cat hair was also the problem, as the station engineers discovered. It clogged a vent and thereby caused a minor heat overload in Utz's console. They also recommended that Utz stop sharing their snacks with the Skitties when they were at work.
"But I like cats," whined Utz.
[1] Cats are, by weight, the deadliest predators and most efficient hunters to exist on Earth. Gengineering has added population limitations and only a slight enhancement of their hunting drive. This was done so the resultant felinoids would be efficient and reliable organic pest control.
