It was very early morning in the survey camp and the human was up and cheerfully going about getting ready to surprise their friends with a wonderful breakfast while enjoying a beautiful sunrise. -- Anon Guest
The difference between Early Birds and Insomniacs is that the Insomniacs don't want to be there. But a dawn like this? It tended to level that difference into nothingness.
Some quirk of the atmosphere lead to a fine layer of crystals somewhere in the stratosphere or above. Which, in turn, lead so something Human Oth referred to as, rainbow auroras. Snaking, twirling spectra curling their ways across the skies. It almost completely distracted hir from the pancakes and bacon.
"Shit! Flakk." The spatula in hir hand blurred, flipping or moving things on the hotplate as necessity demanded. Not too bad. Some things were a little browner than they should have been. Nothing burned to trash status.
Human Yen crawled out of their habitat and zombie-walked to the coffee. "Flakkin' Aurora Iris made you almost burn breakfast a-flakkin-gain?" They swigged. "Either stop cooking breakfast at dawn or wear a flakkin' hat so you don't look up. Deesh." Coffee finished, they poured a second cup and looked up. "Damn it's pretty though."
"Never gets old," said Oth. "You gonna help or are you gonna stand around being picturesque?"
"Second. Coffee."
"Right. Picturesque it is. Three pancakes, two bacons, one serve of scramble and a whole lot of salt and maple syrup coming atcha in five."
"Mmmmnnngh..." said Yen. "This is why I don't strangle you."
Surveyor Kiya poked her beak out of her own habitat, "Can you Humans keep your weird mating rituals down? Some of us still need sleep."
The Shut up! round robin commenced, and both Oth and Yen had to contain their laughter for the duration.
Every morning was like this. Oth wouldn't change it for the Universe.
