Several kids flying kites accidentally run into Wraithvine and hir friends. Giggling, they offer the kite strings to the individuals, asking the group to come play -- Anon Guest
They had the time. And why not? Between one place and another, with all the urgencies currently out of the way, playing in a park had its lures. Especially for Marvin.
Wraithvine hadn't held a kite string for too long, and accepted the spool with giddy laughter. Which more or less gave the others permission to play. If an Elf almost as old as the world could play with kites, then anyone could do it. And, for the sake of the game, the spell to Control Winds was very, very useful.
Marvin was running around with the other children and laughing. Careful of the smaller ones anywhere near his feet and trying not to tangle his kite string with anyone else's. Wraithvine was far more sedate, enjoying the spectacle and the occupation, and the peace.
Especially the peace.
Anthe was trying to figure out the point of it. Burrowing species didn't always comprehend games with the sky. She was doodling ideas in the dirt that featured a large enough kite, a small enough Kobold, and an infiltration plot against a mountain fastness.
Apropos of very little topic, Wraithvine said, "He's still growing."
Anthe muttered, "Take that, you dumb sunsiders... Huh?"
"Marvin."
"What about him?"
"He's still growing. He's going to need bigger clothes." Wraithvine was idly jostling hir kite string, but actually watching the children at play. "Are we certain of his age?"
Anthe dropped the twig she had been using for a stylus, plans of conquest forgotten. She climbed up Wraithvine to get a better view of the children at play. Watched them. Soaked up all the mannerisms and mumbled to herself.
"He really does move like a kid who's not used to growing yet." Perched on Wraithvine's shoulder, her draconic head turned to keep him in focus. "We never asked did we? We just recognised another lost soul who didn't deserve the place where he washed up and..."
"And did what we do. Yes. I should have seen it. The placement of the heel, the alignment of his toes... He could be part Giant."
"He could be a literal child and we've been treating him like a fully-grown dullard. That's wrong."
"We can ask. We will learn. We will move forward in a way that makes an improvement." Wraithvine contemplated the children at play and then refocussed on flying hir kite. "This is how we gift a better life. After we have all had a fun day at the park."
Honestly? That sounded like a good plan. "Reckon one of those can carry me?" Anthe asked.
