A small child climbs onto Mr. Sunshine's lap as he sits and paints. The parents apologize, profusely and nervously, for losing track of their toddler. -- Anon Guest
He didn't notice the child until a small and piping voice said, "Dassa ki'y ca'!"
Mr Sunshine would have come to a standstill if he wasn't already sitting down. As it was, he froze as if someone had pressed his pause button. Staring at what was obviously a very small Human neophyte.
They usually didn't let him near children. Or let children near him. He looked around for his usual security detail and found them conspicuously absent. "Yes," he eventually said. "That is a kitty cat." There were no parents either, but the child did have the requisite locator bracelets and anklets. Someone had to know where they were. Someone would probably be having a conniption as Mr Sunshine knew that he was a walking Hazard Zone.
Heedless of any such problem, the kid clambered onto his lap. "Bi-i-ig pi'chah," they announced.
"Yes," he said, wondering if he should move. "I like making big pictures. You should know that I do not possess a license for childcare of any kind, and I'm not permitted near children. Normally."
The child didn't seem to care. "Got new socks," they announced, thrusting a foot towards the ceiling.
"Oh. They look... colourful? Where are your--"
"RAN! Oh sweet powers , THERE you are!"
Ah. The Guardians had arrived. The kid slid off him and bolted to their parent, shouting "RENNIE!"
Mr Sunshine found his breathing to be much clearer as of that moment. He put his brushes down, knelt on the ground, and placed his hands on his head. Harmless. Any minute now, someone was going to be screaming about this.
The screams never came. Merely profuse apologies and a, "T'ank yoooo..." from the child.
Either someone was going to get a reprimand or he was being tested. Those had to be the only options.
