They lost their legs in a wreck, honestly didn't remember the wreck, when they awakened in the alien's craft. Oddly, without pain. The first thing the Aliens asked, what did their feet look like so they could replace them? How kind...wait what?? -- Anon Guest
"My feet are badly engineered. Honestly, glad to be rid of them," said Human Funz. "Ever heard of bone spurs? Fallen arches? Rheumatism?" He counted these off on his fingers. "I had nasty things happening below the knee. Despite my best efforts."
"But... you're a deathworlder?" said Medik Truc tilted her head.
"Yeah, getting the advantage fast was more important than getting the advantage right. Deathworlder evolution is all about what works for long enough." Funz busied himself with his datareader. "These are real fun painkillers by the way. I can't feel a thing beyond my knees, but the brain's still passably functional. Ah. Here we go. The full catalogue."
Of course Deathworlders had solutions ready for this sort of thing. They could shrug off the destruction of vast portions of their bodies.
"There's way too many options," said Funz, scrolling through them. "Little overwhelming, actually. Uhm... Do you feel like helping me narrow it down to a few? At least?" A little more scrolling, "Gosh, some of these are so pretty..."
Medik Truc found a place to perch to look at the options. Some existed just for the aesthetic. Some were intensely practical. At least one were exact biomimetic replications of the original limb. Though, they were severely lacking in the biomimetic flaws. No fallen arches, rheumatism, nor bone spurs, which was a bonus.
There were practical replacements, pretty replacements, a mixture of the twain, and even one made out of superfluous gears that would move in interesting ways whenever Funz walked with them.
"Aw, but they'd get caught on everything," sighed Funz.
"They come with clear protective casings," Truc singsonged.
"Enabler," Funz laughed.
