I asked them to bless my newborn. Their reply was "I bless thee with great richness of spirit, abundance of life, and a beautiful heart."
That was the most wonderful blessing I could ever imagine. -- Anon Guest
Blessings can be curses, and vice versa. It's all about the heart and intention involved. And whether or not some malicious entities want to take things literally. Fortunately, there are those whose intent trumps malice in all its forms.
Well. At least one.
The real trick is locating hir when there's so many who go about pretending to be hir for the adulation ze gets for hir deeds. So many fakers pretend to be Wraithvine... and find so many depending on them. Some run. Some shape up and do their best. Some only perform the act once. But the genuine, definitive article? Ze always has the best intent and gifts the blessings that can do the most good.
The usual blessings are health, wealth, and happiness. Not from Wraithvine.
I bless thee with a rich spirit, an abundance of life, and a beautiful heart.
There's thousands of ways to turn that kind of blessing sinister, but not when it comes from The Wizard of Two Kind Hands. Malevolent spirits know better than to mess with that kind of thing.
Ze has hir ways of enacting retribution.
The child, Jollie, shook off illness relatively quickly. She had a generous heart and a strong sense of justice. Fearless, she regularly upbraided adults for their hypocrisy. She encouraged others to help those who were down on their luck. Feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, gifting work to those who truly wanted work.
After all, there was always something that needed doing. No matter the capability of the one doing it.
Of course, she became a powerful mageworker. Someone with that kind of blessing rarely rests on laurels. Someone with that kind of blessing eagerly seeks ways to have more than one set of hands with which to help others.
Jollie didn't need health, wealth, or happiness given with a blessing. She earned it through her own choices. And further, the blessing she was gifted did more for everyone around her than the traditional three.
Such was the nature of a true blessing.
