The one thing about being a space trucker is you took on projects to pass the time from place to place. Heh, but I seem to have taken on too many at once. You've ridden with me quite a while, and while I don't mind being a free taxi, you think you can help me finish some? -- Anon Guest
Sanity Projects exist to help an idle mind and idle hands stay out of trouble. The description is right there on the tin. It is a project to keep someone sane. They come out a lot when people have a job that involves days on end of stultifying boredom.
After all, there's only so long anyone can read, watch entertainment, or play games. Sooner or later, you just gotta do something. And some? Like me? Don't know what we can or can't do.
So I picked up a lot of ideas. A lot of tools. A lot of material resources. That's why there's a crammed craft room in the habitat.
Yeah, I know you can hardly move in there. You've heard of SABLE, right? Stash Above and Beyond Life Expectancy. I've got PABLE. Projects Above and Beyond Life Expectancy.
I was going to knit myself a sweater, but I keep falling asleep and I can't remember how to perl. I was going to crochet a hat, but I couldn't fathom how to decrease properly. I tried weaving on those little square loom things, to make a knee rug, but I did something wrong and the whole thing fell apart. Puzzles? The cat ate them. Model-making... glued the wrong pieces together and dunno how to recover from that. Writing? Turns out I'm a chronic editor. Drawing and painting? I don't have the patience to doodle.
Name a hobby and I've tried it. That's just the outermost layer of the craft room there. Yes, even making things out of craft wood pieces. Matchsticks, lolipop, and icepop sticks. That sort of thing.
I'm okay with doing things with wire, but... all the wire's behind all the other stuff.
I don't feel right feeding all that stuff into the molecular recycler. Seems wasteful, you know. I'd like to have something out of all of this, or make someone happy so. Have at it. Find something you like, and help me finish a thing. You can have whatever out of the stash and the tools you like too.
Better to make someone happy than trash it all.
