A fun vacation ends with bringing home a little trinket, a squid headed god seated on a rune covered throne. Only, ever since, my dreams have grown ever stranger as a yearning fills me... -- Anon Guest
Don't touch that! Just... don't touch. Bad things happen to anyone else who touches that. Trust me, okay? You don't want the literally gory details.
Yes, I carry it around with me everywhere. No, I don't know if that's a good idea, but after what happened to the cleaners? I like to have it close. It's safer for everyone else. I don't want another gory death on my conscience.
Yeah, it's from that diving expedition over Doggerland. I insisted on picking it up, and I'm the only one who keeps living after handling it. I dunno. Maybe it's saving me for last.
It whispers to me whenever it's quiet.
Especially at night.
Yeah. I know how it sounds crazy. That's why I'm talking to you. The Shrink. I don't want to be crazy. That's why I got the sleep monitor to make sure. It's detected and recorded my voice... and a second voice. It's too soft to hear and the transcription just says... unintelligible.
I've tried a few tricks to boost a few of the clearest samples, but... either I'm doing something wrong or that thing isn't speaking a language known to civilisation. Or at least the ones that have survived to be documented.
My dreams have been the same since I brought that thing home. Always underwater. Always roaming through that weird geological formation where I found it. It always looks more like a city than it did when we were down there.
And worse? I've started wanting to go back. The whispers. I swear they're telling me... the water is warm, and it's such a good neighbourhood.
