They were a "sunsider", but they went to the Everdark quite frequently for trade. They were viewed and treated as unwelcome for quite a while, until it became clear they held no prejudice against any cognizant species. They always traded fair, and had no qualms of paying even a higher rate charged due to them being a sunsider. After all, most of these individuals were treated poorly up top, they couldn't blame them for acting such toward those that came from the surface. -- Anon Guest
Trade with the civilisations of the Everdark began with the High D'varuv and the Gnomes. They were tunnelers and diggers before they found their way to the 'sun side' of the world. It was with their good repute and some tokens of their favour that got Narhem deeper into the literal underworld.
He had to make up a fictitious mistress who had charged him with trades. It was the only way to pass unharmed from the realms of the Stone Elves. He also had to make up a similar, Elven master to pass unharmed from the Deep Dwarves. Narhem had to make notes in his journal as to who his imaginary Master or Mistress were.
It was amazing what the Everdark wanted from the surface. Colourful fabrics and soft things. The Everdark was hard and tough, and made creatures that followed suit. They thusly loved everything soft, delicate, and sweet.
And cats, which were formidable creatures anywhere.
All of which Narhem traded for jewels, interesting metals, and even more interesting things made of those metals. He made quite the enormous profit from the trip on both sides of the sea level.
What should not have shocked him was that there was an entire city of Hellkin down there. Hellkin and Darkfolk Halfbreds, but mostly Hellkin.
They had nowhere else to go, and no place else that would welcome them like the Everdark did.
No wonder most of the people he met down there thought he was ugly.
