Our world is about to go through radical changes! Renowned geneticists Williams, Miller, and Garcia from the University of Longtown have just declared that they have successfully finished testing a medicine that drastically reduces DNA oxidation and the results are astonishing.
The medicine has been tested on 15 mice for almost 3.5 years, although the average life span of a laboratory mouse is about 2 years. The mice were 2 to 3 months old when they started receiving the medicine which allowed them to expand their lifespan by some 65% with no negative side effects.
The next step is getting the approval for testing the medicine on humans. Should the same results be achieved, this will mean that our lifespan will increase from 79 years to about 132 years. Williams, Miller, and Garcia claim that the underlying concept of aging is virtually identical in almost all mammals and that the medicine will almost certainly achieve extremely similar results when applied to humans.
The scientists claim that between 5 and 10 years of testing on humans will be required before the medicine is ready for mass usage. Thus, should it be allowed in free sales, the medicine will be readily available at your local drugstore sometime around 2025-2030.
My guess is that everyone will want to get the medicine as soon as possible because the sooner you get the medicine, the sooner you will slow down your aging process. The lives of Williams, Miller, and Garcia could even be in danger because many people obsessed with remaining young for as long as possible might try forcing them into releasing the formula even prior to the end of human testing.
How will this affect the humanity? Should the medicine be allowed to all of us, the world’s population will increase at an enormous rate in the second half of the XXI century and during the whole XXII century as well. Given that the barely sustainable increase is expected even without the medicine, it will most certainly not be allowed to everyone.
Who will live a long and who will live a normal life? Will the medicine only be allowed in certain countries? Will the medicine have an extremely high price, thus only being affordable to the richest individuals? Will the medicine be provided only to the most important politicians, generals, scientists, athletes, artists, and similar? Who is to decide all of this, should we have a global referendum?
