Last year i took park in something called "the 48 hour film competition". Idea is that you get a team together, and in a weekend, 48 hours, you make a short film. It includes getting your genre, character name, props, writing, shooting, editing and handing in a complete finished product.
It's fun, and stressful.
and 48 hour of no sleeping.
but it's interesting and a huge learning curve.
It's an international competition and takes place all around the world.
I took part in South Africa- Johannesburg.
If you're a film-maker, and is stuck and want to try something new. Or fresh out of college or still in college and want to get some experience, try this.
We ended up making a fantasy coming of age short movie called " Jacob and the Stolen tooth". About Jacob who steels a tooth, gets punished by the Tooth-fairy and is transported to fairy land. The only way to get back is to help the fairyland characters.
It wasn't a Hollywood blockbuster, but to our surprise and delight we did win two awards, Best Wardrobe and Best use of prop.
Recently i received the exciting news that one of our local film festivals (Ekurhuleni Film festival) selected our short movie for showing. Cant tell you how exciting all of us are.
Here are some pictures i would like to share, of our experience while shooting during the 48 Hour Film Competition.
Thank you for reading.
Did you ever took part in something similar, and what was your experience?
