The Secret in their Eyes (2009) Argentina
It has a non-linear plot that has the viewer going between Dirty War-era Argentina and modern day. The film felt a little muddled because it was trying to say a lot. It touches on the grief of lost loves and putting your trust in the system that regularly victimizes its citizens. It's about fear and overcoming it to pursue what you really want in life.
The film is helped by solid performances by the whole cast, but especially Darin, the beautiful and charming Soledad Villamil, and Guillermo Francella, who stole all the scenes he was in.
The film has moments of very violent acts and gripping tension, but the overall feeling of the film is that of calm contemplation. It's color pallet of warm browns and burgundy is a reflection of the overarching love story and not the cruel violence of the world around them.
