Few major Hollywood films were as inevitable as the third part of original Star Trek film series. Previous film ended with the death of most beloved of all Star Trek characters and the most rabid fans would have none of it. Just like with Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes, that mistake had to corrected and Leonard Nimoy took the job of playing resurrected Spock with additional task of directing. Although the plot at times seems soapish, Nimoy does good job, making the series of impressive scenes aided by memorable musical score of James Horner and continually improving special effects. Unavoidable comparison with The Wrath of Khan, however, made The Search look worse, just like less memorable Robin Curtis replacing Kirstie Alley in the role of Saavik.
