First Star Trek film, while not considered the worst, is burdened with reputation of being the most boring in the history of franchise. 1979 spectacle directed by old school Hollywood veteran Robert Wise is nowadays less remembered as the first attempt to bring cult TV show on big screen, and more because of the endless long scenes of traveling space ships that in many ways drown what could otherwise be an exciting and intelligent story. Such baggage was, however, almost inevitable in that point of film history, because hard core original trekkies dreamed about space adventure scenes unavailable because of technical and other limits of 1960s television. General impression of the film is still very positive, mainly due to experienced cast repeating their iconic role, while Jerry Goldsmith provided one of the most memorable and effective music score in history of cinema.
