Fifth part of the original Star Trek film series is generally regarded to be the worst in the history of the franchise. The plot features Spock's Vulcan half-brother Sybok (played by Laurence Luckinbill) stealing USS Enterprise in order to visit distant planet where he would meet God. Intriguing idea to confront religious belief didn't work well because of the generally bad script and too much emphasis on humour, which was often of the poor quality. The main reason for the failure of The Final Frontier has, however, unusually low budget which often makes one of 1989 presumed summer blockbusters look like a cheap episode of the television series. Although much better than its Golden Raspberry Award would suggest, The Final Frontier deserved most of its unenviable reputation among Star Trek fans.
