Final part of Christopher Nolan's Batman film trilogy was deeply influenced by current political events like 2008 global financial crisis and the subsequent rise of Occupy Wall Street movement. The plot begins with masked criminal Bane (played by Tom Hardy) using the economic woes of Gotham City in order to moblise impoverished masses of its citizens into his an insurgent army and take over the city. Bruce Wayne/Batman (played by Christian Bale), deeply demoralised after bloody struggle with Joker eight years earlier, is only shadow of his former self and he must first regain inner strength before he fights evil. Another complication is arrival of top cat burglar Selina Kyle alias Catwoman (played by Ann Hathaway). Nolan ends his trilogy by keeping serious and utterly dark tone of previous two films, while maintaing high quality of direction, great acting and another memorable score by composer Hans Zimmer. Like in previous films, epic story at times look too complicated for feature film, and The Dark Knight Rises could be viewed as somewhat unfinished. That impression is avoided only through somewhat unusual ending.
