Michael Bay didn't need to reinvent the wheel for the purposes of the second sequel in lucrative Transformers film franchise. 2009 film is using more-or-less the same elements and the same plot as 2007 film. Shia LeBeouf again plays nerdy teenager helping the machine-morphing race of Autobots in their war against Decepticons and has to save the world. The only difference is Bay's desire to show everyone that Revenge of the Fallen had bigger budget than first Transformers. Because of that the plot, with a prologue set in 17000 BC, is more epic, and there are more spectacular explosions. Of course, quantity of attractive visual content is at the expense of quality of script, which is full of sometimes irritating plot holes. Bay, to a degree, saves his film in the final battle scene, set near Egyptian Pyramids, which gives a solid combination of spectacular action, pathos and humour.
